Kids Summer/Quarantine Activity – Mini Backyard or Indoor Golf Course

June 12, 2020 2 Comments

Plan a fun activity that will keep the kids on their toes, and engaged for hours this summer! Not only will kids love creating this mini-golf course, they will also love playing it with parents and/or siblings. This is also a perfect way to spend Father’s Day and get the kids moving around instead of staying cooped up in front of the screen during lockdown.

Ideas for Creating a Miniature Golf Course

Use empty cartons or cereal boxes, tubes and pool noodles, blocks and toys etc to create a nine-hole golf course. You need to get creative and look around the house (and the kids’ toy boxes) for things that can be used to create a golf course. The kids can also decorate the boxes with paint, stickers or you can also download and print some toys clipart to use.. Try to make each hole different to make things interesting. With this type of mini-golf course it is best to use a ping-pong ball (Table Tennis ball) as the golf ball. You can set up the course in the backyard or even indoors.

Here are some ideas:

Head Out!

Before starting to play golf let the kids pick out their best “golf” clothes. For Father’s Day, let them choose the outfit for Dad also. If the kids want they can also dress up.  Give each person a ping-pong ball and provide some permanent markers so that everyone can decorate their own ball. Then give everyone their golf clubs (you can use little plastic ones or even PVC pipes if you don’t have golf clubs) and head outside to have some golfing fun.

To play the game strokes count as points. If you give up on a hole it is 25 points. At each hole if a player gets it in the hold in under 15 strokes they get some kind of small prize like a piece of candy. Once everyone is done playing add up points and see how each person did.

What’s a Summer Activity without some Food to go with it!

Once the game is over though you can have some more golfing fun. Use some easy golf themed food ideas to re-charge the little golf players.

Here are some quick and easy ideas:

To quench the thirst, any green colored drink – for e.g. lemonade infused with mint.
