Lands in Love: A Vegan Paradise in the Costa Rican Rainforest

August 6, 2024 Leave a Comment

I recently visited the breathtakingly beautiful country of Costa Rica in Central America and stayed in the “Lands in Love” hotel in the San Ramon province. The vegan hotel and resort, which also runs an animal rescue center is set in an unbelievable setting right in the middle of a hidden valley in the cloud forest of Costa Rica. Here is my experience of a memorable stay and some adrenaline pumping adventure activities with them.

Waking Up in Paradise

Clockwise from Top: My new furry friend who visited me outside my room every morning, outdoor seating for my room, the lush valley I woke up to, every morning, the pool and the hanging bridge on the resort property.

Imagine waking up each morning to breathtaking views of lush mountains and rainforest stretching out before you. That was my daily reality at Lands in Love, a beautiful resort nestled in the heart of Costa Rica’s cloud forest. This was definitely my favorite part of the stay!

Delicious and Diverse Cuisine

Meals at Lands in Love Vegan Resort and Hotel in Costa Rica

Lands in Love caters to all dietary needs, offering a delightful selection of vegan and gluten-free options alongside traditional Costa Rican fare. Everything is made fresh on-site, and their wholesome Israeli and Mediterranean platters, Mexican baskets, fluffy pancakes, and refreshing smoothies were my personal favorites. Mock meats, pizzas, sandwiches, and local dishes round out the menu, making it a haven for any palate.

The restaurant is open to the public, and we met many travelers stopping by for a delicious meal while on their adventures to La Fortuna or Monteverde.

A Feast for the Eyes

The beauty extends far beyond the stunning scenery. The rooms and common areas, including the lobby, restaurant, and recreation spaces, are all tastefully decorated. The walls showcase artwork and unique collectibles, while floral quilts on the beds and colorful fabrics in the reception area add a touch of charm. Everywhere you turn, there’s something visually captivating to appreciate.

The spacious bathrooms come equipped with basic toiletries. The only thing missing is air conditioning, which can be a drawback on humid nights. Since opening the windows invites unwanted insects (remember, you’re in the rainforest!), a good fan might be a welcome addition.

Nature Lover’s Paradise

Lands in Love is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Explore the on-site trails and witness the incredible diversity of birds and insects. I spotted toucans, great curassows, tanagers, and countless other birds right from my balcony! The resort also boasts a large pond teeming with ducks and other water birds, creating a truly serene atmosphere.

Unforgettable Adventures

Lands in Love’s renowned Adventure Activity Center – Canopy San Lorenzo – guarantees an unforgettable experience. I had a blast ziplining through the rainforest canopy, swinging on Tarzan swings and Superman cables, rappelling down canyons, exploring on an ATV ride, and embarking on exhilarating forest hikes. Everything was meticulously planned, and the knowledgeable and fun guides made it even more enjoyable.

A Refuge for Animals

What truly sets Lands in Love apart is its no-kill animal rescue center, a non-profit organization providing a loving home for over 1700 injured and neglected animals. They receive medical treatment, find comfort, and receive ongoing support.

While the barks of the rescued dogs might occasionally create some noise, knowing the cause makes it easily overlooked. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the animals – walking the dogs, feeding the horses – it was incredibly heartwarming.

Beautiful Pet cemetery at Lands in Love/Animal Love Rescue Centre in Costa Rica

Beautiful pet cemetery with each headstone painted lovingly.

Even the pet cemetery reflects their commitment to beauty. Each animal’s resting place is marked by a beautifully painted rock, creating a unique and respectful tribute. Lands in Love’s dedication to animal welfare is truly inspiring.

Overall, my stay at Lands in Love was an absolute delight. I can’t wait to return and experience this paradise again!
