The Best Lice Treatment in India

March 27, 2017 13 Comments

Ugh! I wish some topics never existed. But head lice, unfortunately, is a sad reality of our otherwise #FabulousMomLife. No use running away from it! After some really annoying battles, I finally found the perfect and sure shot remedy for lice in children. Sharing with you mommies who are in the same boat, the best lice treatment in India.

I have two girls and I am no stranger to head lice. Heck, I have known it since I was a little girl myself! The worst part about head lice is how quickly they multiply and then spread to everyone else’s head in the family. There was this crazy time when all 3 of my kids had their heads infested with lice (yes, the little one too!) and even I was beginning to scratch my head now and then.

The lice comb did its job dutifully twice a day, every day but the lice simply wouldn’t end. And it was really painful to see the baby have to deal with it too! I shaved my son’s head off (desperate times, desperate measures…lol) but the girls simply would not agree to it. Well, I wouldn’t have either, so I cannot blame them really.

Lice Treatments in India that I tried

Here are some things that I tried:

  1. Mediker Shampoo
  2. Mediker Hair Oil
  3. Hair Sheild Anti-Lice cream wash
  4. Licel Oil
  5. Neem Oil
  6. Regular Lice Comb
  7. Baby Hair Oil
  8. Coconut Oil
  9. Bakson’s Sunny Anti-Lice Shampoo
  10. Steel Lice combs – I think they are absolutely the best for manually removing lice!

Everything brought mild results. The stubborn head lice simply refused to end. The nits (lice eggs) were impossible to deal with and kept growing into new lice. And that’s when I found the magic potion!

The Best Lice Treatment in India!

UPDATED in FEBRUARY 2026

My favorite lice removal treatment, mentioned below (my original recommendation in this post written 8 years ago) – NYDA – is no longer available in India! This time, I was frantically looking for a lice infestation treatment for my 2nd daughter and to my dismay, I couldn’t find it in India! I tried searching for NYDA online and offline but it is no longer available. If you friends or relatives living or visiting US, Canada or Australia, you can ask them to bring it for you.

If you are unable to find it, here’s my current favorite Lice Removal treatment – IVREA.

Once again, I tried everything else first, as mentioned above. Absolutely NOTHING worked. I was pouring bottles and bottles of lice oil in her long hair. It even came down to talks of getting the hair cut short during vacations, which resulted in a huge tantrum as my daughter is too possessive of her Rapunzel-ish locks. Then, while researching I found many clinics and salons promising lice treatments. That told me that they know something that we don’t. A little more digging (I wish this happened earlier!) brought forward a shampoo called IVREA.

The Best Lice Treatment in India

Ivrea contains Ivermectin and solved the problem of lice in one use. Use as directed. Apply shampoo and keep for 10 minutes. You will start seeing the lice falling out immediately and more on the pillow later at night. Change pillow case and bedsheet next morning.

I can still see the lice eggs but they seem to be dead because there are no new lice growing. I will continue to use this weekly or twice-a-month. Will update here if finally the eggs are also gone. NYDA had miraculously cleared all the eggs also. But so far, this is the only thing that has actually worked.

Ivrea Shampoo for Lice Removal – 1 bottle 30 ml (Seller charges delivery fee)

Ivrea Pack of 2 – I bought this subsequently

Ivrea Pack of 1 – Cheaper price, free delivery, but requires a prescription to buy.

Used on: 10 year old

The Best Lice Treatment in India that Wipes Off Nits too!

I was looking on my trusted Amazon for anti-lice products and came upon this German product called ‘NYDA’.  Most of the NYDA reviews said that it worked like magic so I decided to give it a try. By this time I was so tired of combing out head lice that I would have been ready to try anything that promised even half the results. But this product claimed to remove nits too! It was certainly worth a try.

The product was costlier than most of the others (INR 599 for 2 bottles) but it promised great results. And does it deliver or what! All the Lice as well as the Nits went lifeless after application! Many reviewers mention that they were able to get rid of the lice in one application only. I guess I was dealing with a much more serious infestation. It took twice for the treatment to completely eradicate the head lice.

NYDA Lice Treatment Review

NYDA Lice Treatment came very well recommended but I was very, very nervous to try it out at first. It always happens to moms when they are about to try a new product on their kids. I wanted to be very sure that the oil was not too strong to cause any side effects on my children. I used it on my eldest first as hers was the most severe case of head lice which had affected the others too.

NYDA comes in a bottle and has a separate spray nozzle and a lice comb with it. You need to open the cap, fix the spray nozzle on the bottle and spray the liquid all over the head thoroughly. Make sure you use plenty of it and leave no spot untouched.

After leaving it overnight, comb out the dead lice and nits (yes, nits too!) using the comb included. Do not any other comb. You might think you have the best lice comb, but seriously, you haven’t seen the best yet. This close-toothed lice comb is made of very good quality plastic and does the best job of combing out lice.

On combing out the next day, I found all the lice dead but a few nits remaining. Just as I had expected, the remaining nits grew into lice again. NYDA recommends one more final use after 8 days, if the first use was not enough. I repeated after 8 days, and after this, the lice were completely eradicated.

Final Thoughts

It took only one use to remove the head lice from my son’s hair. I was very paranoid of using it on my 1 year old. I lightly sprayed her hair with NYDA and it worked it’s magic there too. All the lice were gone in one single use. It took me a total of both the bottles on all the 3 kids (and the remaining spray on myself). The INR 599 spent on it now seemed more than worth it.

It has been 6 months since using it and the lice isn’t back yet. Even if it does, I know what I am supposed to do. Either nip the problem in the bud as soon as it arises, or buy a pack of NYDA. It is indeed the best lice treatment in India. No more fretting with the lice comb now.

Thank You for the review. I had faced this problem a lot in my childhood and would never want my kid to go through this.
