Pregnancy is one of the best periods in a woman’s life. From here afterward, you not only have to look out after your health but also need to take care of that little bundle of joy.A well-balanced diet always plays an important role especially during the pregnancy. During this period your body needs some extra nutrients. Thus, you need to be more alert and specific with your food choices. You may face a situation where you will need to give up on your favorite food too. During pregnancy, you need to avoid certain food items as they may create problem for you and the baby.

10 Foods a Woman Should Avoid During Pregnancy

  1. Fish containing high-level mercury

It is an element which is found in polluted lakes, oceans which then gets converted into methyl mercury in the human body. It is neurotoxic in nature which leads to developmental delays and brain damage in the babies. Shark, King mackerel, swordfish, and tuna contain a high level of mercury.

  1. Caffeine intake

It is said that caffeine intake is associated with the miscarriage. It is good to stay away from caffeine during your first trimester to reduce the risk of miscarriage. Avoid drinking tea, coffee, cocoa and soft drinks.

  1. Canned foods

The lining which is done on the food cans mainly contain Bisphenol A. It is a toxic substance which affects the activity of the fetal endocrine which then leads to the fertility problems, liver ailments, cancer and heart problems.

  1. Street foods

Street foods always seem to be delicious. However, they can be reason for food poisoning, infections, and stomach problems. Avoid the street-food cravings during pregnancy.

  1. Avoid raw or an undercooked egg

Stay away from raw eggs as they are exposed to the salmonella. They can lead to food poisoning. One may even experience vomiting, headache, and high temperature. Thus also ends up in weakening your immune system.

  1. Say no to sugar rich foods

Avoid eating foods which are rich in sugar such as ice-creams, candies, desserts, and other sweet beverages. These can worsen pregnancy discomforts.

  1. Raw sprouts

Say good-bye to raw sprouts such as radish, broccoli, sunflower, soybean, etc. These are highly prone to salmonella, listeria. Listeriosis leads to premature birth, miscarriage and infections in new born baby.

  1. Unpasteurized milk, fruit juice and cheese

You will have to give up on all milk products. Ice creams and shakes are made from unpasteurized milk sources thus it is dangerous to take raw milk. These all products contain harmful bacteria such as cryptosporidium, listeria, salmonella, etc.

  1. Smoked seafood

Smoked food and the refrigerated food are often labeled as nova style, jerky; lox thus should be avoided because they too contain listeria.

  1. Say bye to these vegetables and fruits–

Avoid eating Papaya, Black grapes and Pineapple. In veggies get rid of cabbage and lettuce.
