The Small Change That Helped Me Feel More Like Myself Again

July 29, 2026 Leave a Comment

Motherhood is an interesting thing. It changes you in ways you never expect. Before having kids, I didn’t think about my breakfast as much as I do now. I used to prepare something wholesome and nutritious to start my day. Now, I have to think about everyone else’s breakfast, or at least someone else’s breakfast: my kids’. I am a bundle of nerves in the morning, and by the time I get everyone off to school, I realize I haven’t thought about myself at all.

It is a strange feeling, being a mother and forgetting about yourself so easily. It is normal when you have to take care of your children, but it is also sad. You think to yourself, “Well, I’ll have something healthy for myself when I get back from work,” or, “I can skip breakfast today; it’s not a big deal.” But eventually, you feel so deprived that you cannot ignore it any longer, and you start thinking about the changes you want to make in your life.

What I am saying is that I was not looking for a miracle cure, only something that would allow me to take better care of myself and, consequently, my family. That is how I started thinking more about protein and added Whey Protein Powder to my grocery list. I do not know if it has completely changed my life, but it has certainly changed how I feel. It is much easier to have something healthy when you’re on the go. You can throw it in the blender with some fruit and make a protein shake, mix it into overnight oats, add it to your morning smoothie, or enjoy it after a walk as a healthier alternative to dessert.

It Is So Easy to Forget About Yourself

I do not think that many mums intentionally forget about themselves. It just happens. There is always something else to do: another load of washing, another message from school, another birthday present to buy. You keep telling yourself you’ll get around to looking after yourself later, but somehow later never comes.

You tell your children to take better care of themselves, to eat healthier, and to drink more water, but you do not always follow your own advice. This realization was a bit of a shock for me because I had never thought about self-care in that way before motherhood. I learned that looking after myself did not take anything away from my children. If anything, it gave me more to give to them.

Why I Started Paying More Attention to My Protein

I was never one of those people who counted calories or worried about exactly how much protein I needed. I was not following any serious diet. My goal was much simpler. I wanted to stop feeling hungry a couple of hours after breakfast and feeling like I was going to fall asleep by lunchtime every single day. Once I started including more protein in my diet, I realized I felt much better throughout the day and was no longer constantly thinking about reaching for something sweet.

I think it is important to mention that I was not trying to be healthy in an unrealistic or unsustainable way. I did not put myself on a strict diet. I simply made one small change that improved my daily routine. It was one of those habits I never thought much about because I did not realize how much my old routine was affecting me. Once I made the change, though, I could not imagine going back. It simply became part of my life.

Taking Care of Yourself Is Not Selfish

Being a mum is an ongoing journey of taking care of your children. Unfortunately, “taking care of yourself” is often one of the first things to disappear from your list of priorities. Motherhood demands so much from us that looking after ourselves often gets pushed aside. However, it is important to remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish. It does not have to mean spa days or expensive treats. Sometimes it is as simple as drinking more water, eating something nourishing, or stepping outside for a breath of fresh air.

Looking after yourself means you have more energy and emotional resilience to give to your children. I know that when I feel better, I am a better mum. I have more patience, I am more present, and I genuinely enjoy spending time with my family. My children probably do not notice whether I have included Whey Protein Powder in my daily routine, but they certainly notice when I am healthier, happier, and full of energy.

The Little Things Often Make the Biggest Difference

As mums, we often feel like we are never doing enough because there is always something else we could be doing. I know I sometimes feel like I haven’t had a proper breakfast unless I’ve eaten something healthy, or that I haven’t looked after myself properly if I’ve spent the whole day putting everyone else’s needs first.

Over time, though, I have realized that it is often the little things that make the biggest difference. I do not need to be perfect every day, but I do need to be kind to myself when life gets busy. Small, sustainable habits are what keep me going when I feel like my energy is running low.

These days, I think I do a much better job of looking after myself. Of course, there are still days when I feel like I could do more, but I also accept that this is simply part of motherhood. I’ve built healthy habits that fit naturally into my life, and they make me feel better both physically and mentally. Including Whey Protein Powder in my routine has become one of those habits because it is quick, convenient, and easy to stick with, even on the busiest days.

As mums, we spend so much of our time looking after everyone else that we often forget we deserve that same care and attention too. Looking after yourself does not take anything away from your family. If anything, it allows you to give them the very best version of yourself. When you feel physically and emotionally well, everything else becomes just a little bit easier.
