While the word “calisthenics” might sound intimidating, it’s all about using the body’s weight for exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, and squats. In this blog, we’ll explore the world of calisthenics for kids, making exercise a fun and imaginative activity.

5 Fun Animal-Themed Exercises That Kids Will Enjoy

Calisthenics contributes to physical strength and enhances children’s mobility, flexibility, agility, and endurance. Now, let’s explore animal-inspired exercises illustrated on the best calisthenics apps to make it fun for your kids.

1. Bunny Jumps

Bunny jumps are a fantastic way to strengthen those little legs, enhance balance, and boost cardio endurance. To perform this exercise, have your child stand with their feet together, ensuring a straight back. Bend the knees and mimic “rabbit’s ears” with hands at the head. Get them to jump to the beat of lively music, exploring forward, backward, and side-to-side movements.

2. Bear Crawls

Bear crawls are fun and excellent for strengthening the arms, shoulders, chest, and overall core stability. Have your child get on all fours with hands shoulder-width apart and hips raised. Instruct them to crawl along the floor, starting with the right hand and left foot, followed by the left hand and right foot. After about six steps, have them turn around and bear crawl back, making it a full-body workout disguised as a playful adventure.

3. Mad Cat

The Mad Cat exercise improves posture and balance and strengthens the spine and neck. Have your child get down on hands and knees, maintaining a neutral and slightly sagging back position. As they breathe in and contract their stomach muscles, encourage them to arch their back, mimicking a cat stretching. Hold the position for 40 seconds and finish with a dramatic and fun “meowwwww.”

4. Duck Walks

Duck walks build strength in the lower back and legs and develop a greater sense of balance. Instruct your child to stand with their feet slightly apart, bending their knees to squat. To add a playful twist, have them place their hands on the inside of their legs, holding onto the left ankle with the left hand and the right ankle with the right hand. Then, in this duck-like position, encourage them to walk backward, complete with quacking sounds, for an extra dose of amusement.

5. Crab Walks

Crab walks bring a touch of seaside fun while working on strengthening hamstrings, triceps, abs, glutes, and the core. Begin by having your child sit on the floor with both feet flat. Instruct them to place their hands flat on the floor, slightly behind their body. With knees bent, guide them to lift their hips off the floor and walk backward, emulating the sideward motion of a crab.

Concluding Thoughts

Remember, the key is encouragement and leading by example. So, play some playful music, join in the fun, and watch your kids embrace the joy of movement through these entertaining calisthenics exercises.

These ideas sound really great, and a lovely way to encourage children to enjoy moving. I like that there is a theme too as that seems to make it more fun!
