Visiting New York City for the first time is nothing short of magical. In just three days, I got to experience the city’s buzzing energy, iconic landmarks, and a few hidden gems. From staying near Times Square to walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, exploring Central Park, and seeing the Statue of Liberty up close, my NYC trip was packed with unforgettable memories.
Here’s a detailed look at my 3-day New York itinerary:
Day 1: Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge & Dumbo
I checked into the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square Central, just a few steps from Times Square and Bryant Park. The hotel was compact (as expected for such a prime location) but had all the essentials — a microwave, fridge, coffee maker, and even free Starbucks coffee in the lobby all day!
After settling in, I walked to the Times Square–42nd Street subway station and bought my first MetroCard. Riding the New York subway for the first time was an experience in itself!
I got off at City Hall station to start my Brooklyn Bridge walk. The views of Manhattan’s skyline were simply breathtaking. After crossing the bridge, I explored:
-
Pebble Beach (with its postcard-perfect view of the Manhattan Bridge framing the Empire State Building)
-
Jane’s Carousel – a beautiful glass-encased carousel by the water
-
Brooklyn Bridge Park – a relaxing riverside escape
-
Dumbo flea market – full of quirky finds and local flavor
I ended my first evening back at Times Square, soaking in the neon lights and buzzing atmosphere.
Day 2: Central Park Walks & Hidden Corners
The next morning, I took the subway from 42nd Street to Fifth Avenue, ready to explore Central Park.
I started with The Mall and Literary Walk, a wide, tree-lined path featuring statues of famous writers like Shakespeare and Robert Burns. It felt like stepping into a storybook.
Next, I headed to Bethesda Terrace, where I watched turtles swimming in the lake while couples rowed boats — straight out of a romantic movie scene. I sat there for a while, just taking in the peaceful vibe amidst the city chaos.
From there, I strolled over to Bow Bridge, one of Central Park’s most photographed spots. Its dreamy setting made me understand why so many movies have been shot here!
Day 3: Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island Ferry
No first-time New York trip is complete without visiting the Statue of Liberty. I started at Battery Park, where I boarded the Statue City Cruises ferry to Liberty Island.
Seeing Lady Liberty up close was surreal — she truly is a symbol of freedom and hope. I had pedestal tickets (crown tickets sell out months in advance!), which gave me access to the Statue’s pedestal. The view of the Manhattan skyline from there was absolutely worth it.
On the return trip, the ferry stopped at Ellis Island, an important historical site where millions of immigrants once arrived in the U.S. I didn’t get off this time but hope to visit on my next trip.
Final Thoughts
In just three days, I managed to see some of New York’s biggest attractions — from Times Square and Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park and the Statue of Liberty. Of course, NYC has so much more to offer, but this trip gave me the perfect first taste of the city that never sleeps.
If you’re planning a short visit to New York, this 3-day itinerary is a great way to experience the highlights without feeling too rushed.
