DIY Superhero Paper Hand Puppet

August 11, 2016 by Lata Leave a Comment

Welcome to Mommy Life! One minute you are writing a post on your blog and the the next minute, your son informs you that he is required to bring a ‘hand puppet’ to school. I am still not clear as to the purpose of the project but here it is – our DIY Paper Hand Puppet.

I asked my son if he could take a ‘sock’ puppet as they are very easy to make, but he was sure that he was supposed to bring a paper hand puppet only. So, I set about looking for some materials to make the puppet with.

How to Make a Paper Hand Puppet

Making a hand puppet is very easy really. Just take a paper bag to put your hand into, and give it a face and hands. You can make any human or animal face. I happened to have some invitation cards leftover from my son’s superhero birthday party and decided to use them for the face. You can print out any face from the internet or make an easy one by yourself.

What You Will Need:

  1. Paper Bag or Paper (I used a blue blank card and glued two sides to make a bag)
  2. Face and hands cutout or draw them yourself
  3. Scraps of paper for details
  4. Optional: Googly Eyes, Ice cream sticks to make hands (I used neither)

How to:

  1. Use a bag of appropriate color. Since I decided to make a superhero, I needed a blue paper bag. When I could not find one, I simply used a blue card and glued it’s sides to make a bag. Leave just one side open to put your hand inside.
  2. Make a face directly on to the top of the paper bag or assemble it on a separate paper and glue it to the bag.
  3. Glue hands to your puppet.
  4. Cut and glue further dress details.

I only needed some red and yellow scraps of paper to embellish the puppet. If you plan to make a superhero puppet, make sure you don’t make the same mistake that I have. I have created the ‘S’ logo with Yellow lettering on Red paper. It is supposed to be Red Lettering on Yellow paper!
