Fourth of July Celebrations in an Indian Home

July 5, 2017 by Lata 2 Comments

The Fourth of July is celebrated is America’s Independence Day. And while I celebrate our own Indian Independence Day and Republic Day with great enthusiasm, let’s not forget that my kids have grown up in the home of an international blogger. They share my love and passion for international festivals and events. And they love how mommy decorates and crafts with different colors for each one of them. So we did our bit of Red, White and Blue for the Fourth of July celebrations this year 🙂

Red, White and Blue

I have been editing an international online women’s website for the last 14 years and work on a lot of seasonal content. My kids are not surprised to see Halloween props alongside Diwali decorations and enjoy wearing green on Saint Patrick’s Day. And they wait for the special ‘Red, White and Blue’ touch for the American Independence Day! Red, White and Blue are the colors of the American flag and stars and stripes are the main motifs. We use these to add a few special touches to our Fourth of July celebrations. Here are some glimpses from the day.

Red White and Blue Cupcakes

Red White and Blue Cupcake Sprinkles

I am a baking mom and have already mentioned how my kids enjoy decorating cupcakes. We have even hosted a cupcake decorating birthday party. I have a stock of cupcake decorating supplies and the kids love to use the red and blue stars to decorate their Fourth of July cupcakes.

But it is difficult to control the kids once they open the cans of sprinkles. Their world of colors simply cannot be restricted lol. So, we have a host of other cupcakes as well! You can see the Autumn season cupcakes with fall leaves shaped cupcake sprinkles in green, yellow, red, orange and brown. The Valentine’s Day sprinkles are also a favorite with the pretty little hearts in pink and red and the larger red hearts.

Of course, we tied them up in our Fourth of July theme with USA Flag cupcake picks 🙂

These picks and sprinkles are available as imports in Amazon.in. You could get them for much less if you have someone visiting or coming in from the US.

Watermelon and Mango Salsa

Just as our summer season ends, it begins in full force in America. Around of Fourth of July, every year, we still manage to get watermelons and mangoes which are very popular in the United States at this time of the year. So, we make use of them to create our favorite salsa.

Watermelon and Mango Salsa

A refreshing salsa made with watermelon, mango and corriander tastes heavenly with the very American ‘Pringles’ chips. And the special touch, of course, is serving the salsa in the emptied watermelon shell itself!

My favorite Pringles flavor is Sizzling Jalapeno, but my kids love Sour Cream and Onion better.

Red White and Blue – and Spiderman!

This year, we not only salute the beautiful and all-encompassing land of America on Fourth of July, but also await Spider-Man:Homecoming! The kids are awaiting the release of the new Spider-man movie on the 7th of July.

Fourth of July Red, White and Blue Patchwork Frock

Super heroes are your favorite toys when you grow up with a brother!

I was thrilled to find this red, white and blue patchwork style frock. I love patchwork quilting. Although this is not patchwork, the print makes it look so, and is still lovely. It also helps that Spider-man (and Superman, Captain America and Wonder Woman!) also dresses up in red and blue. Makes our red, white and blue outfit complete 🙂
