Teach Them Easy Tasks

It’s normal for toddlers to be overwhelmed by what they don’t know. This includes the task of getting dressed! You can help your curious and determined kid gain confidence by first teaching them a few simple skills. For example, let them place their shirt over their head and then show them how to find their sleeves. Then, as they push their arms through their tees and tops, they’ll be motivated to learn even more about putting on their clothing.

Next comes the task of putting on their bottoms. If it’s challenging to get dressed standing up, have them sit down as they pull on their shorts or pants. This approach often makes it easier to get the garments up over their lower body. It may also help them to sit on their toddler bed or a small stool. You can even model the way you put on your own shorts or leggings.

Buy Comfy, Stretchy Clothing

The right technique for putting on your clothing is important. However, it’s much easier for a child to learn to get dressed when they are wearing comfortable, stretchy clothing. To keep things cozy and dynamic, shop for toddler girl and toddler boy clothes made with cotton or a cotton blend. If you need a couple of ideas, your little one is sure to feel empowered when they wear leggings or joggers with elastic waistbands.

When it’s warm outside, soft shorts with a stylish drawstring will keep your toddler looking fashionable and feeling secure, especially while getting dressed or playing. Jungle pants are easy to put on and look amazing with short sleeves and long sleeves. Toddler girl clothes like rompers and dresses look cute and will make your child feel accomplished as they put their clothes on.

Other toddler clothes that add style and confidence include bodysuits and hooded tops. Since they’re easy to get over your child’s head, they’ll be encouraged to try them. You’ll also love how they help to create easy outfits and look amazing with almost any style of bottoms. Once they master putting on stretchy clothing, they can graduate to tougher materials like denim or more challenging outfits to pull over the head and legs, like toddler girl swimsuits and rash guard sets.

Let Them Pick Their Outfits

If you shop at the popular toddler clothing stores, you may see mix and match outfit sets. These are no-fuss bundles that usually include a top and a bottom that work together. With these toddler outfits, you can create an effortlessly adorable ensemble. They may also include more than two garments, like a shirt and shorts with pants. Since all the pieces come in coordinating colors, it’s easy to create a look for playtime or daycare.

Have plenty of mix-and-match garments in your toddler’s closet so they can create an outfit themselves. Let them pick from a couple of different choices in tops and bottoms. When it comes to toddler girl clothing, shirts with deer and bunnies will make the process more exciting. You’ll also find tunics and tees with flowers and polka dots. Neutral colors and pastel shades are perfect choices for stylish bottoms. You’ll also find prints like stars and hearts.

Toddler boy tees featuring dinosaurs and rockets are trendsetting and fun to explore. Let them choose from a couple of matching bottoms in everyday colors like navy or olive. While they’ll feel like a big kid choosing their favorite items, you won’t have to stress about what they would like to wear. These empowering and positive experiences will have them feeling excited and confident about getting dressed in the morning. If you buy them cute and stretchy toddler sleepwear, they’ll also show the same enthusiasm while they’re preparing for bed.

Give Them Encouragement

As your child learns to pull their arms through their sleeves or put on their pants, be sure to give them compliments. Tell them what an excellent job they’re doing and how they’ll soon put on an entire outfit. To encourage them to try more tasks, give them time to experiment. Let them try a coat or a pair of shoes. If they’re able to do it alone, they’ll experience great pride. To give them a reward, you can buy them a new shirt in a fun, bright color. You can also shop for a top or a dress with a cute pattern or screen print. A long sleeve top with adorable animals or a dress adorned with fruit will delight your child, as well as anyone who sees them wearing their clothing.

When they learn to put on an entire outfit themselves, consider buying them something to celebrate. A gauze toddler dress or a boys’ outfit set featuring a pocket tee and knit shorts will make them feel special. Take a picture of them in their new clothes and then write a note in your scrapbook or on your blog commemorating that they can now dress themselves. They’ll look back on the milestone with pride, while you’ll have lasting memories as a family.
