While we may not have spent long in the new year, we’re rapidly moving towards those early days of spring, and S/S 2026 collections have already been inspiring the new year’s fashion trends for months now.
Here, we distill some of those innumerable movements and styles down a little, picking out a handful of looks that you simply won’t be able to ignore as we get closer and closer to spring.
Big skirts
Some signs are emerging already that spring and summer 2026 will see a renaissance of big skirts. We expect to see these kinds of pieces make their way from high fashion catwalks onto our high streets, and we’re all here for it.
These pieces are flowy, but also have enough warmth and weight to keep you comfortable on a brisk spring evening in a beer garden. It can be a good idea to balance that volume lower down with some slightly more fitted upper pieces, such as a shrunken cardigan.
Timeless tees
Of course, there are some styles that never really go away, so ubiquitous that we can’t even really call them trends – that would imply that they actually go out of style.
Something that matches this definition perfectly is the plain, white tee. Getting some fresh, white options into your wardrobe from somewhere like Screen Textiles is a good idea: enter into the early brightness of summer, feeling clean and renewed after your winter’s rest.
A new approach to utility
Workwear is seeing a revamp, and it’s getting a little more creative. While Dickies and Carhartt gave off a vague impression that you knew how to cut a piece of wood with a saw, the new high-fashion utility is taking things up a notch.
Think leather aprons and carpenter skirts full to the brim with pockets, that imply you’re a master of a specific trade – in this case, that trade is looking great.
We recommend playing around with this theme more generally, and getting creative. That could mean adapting boiler suits to match your personal aesthetic, or mixing a waxed cotton trench suit with something much lighter and more spring-like underneath.
A strange nod to history
Lastly, we’ve seen every sign that a lot of designers and fashion houses are trading in minimalism for an often exuberant nod to 18th and 19th-century historical fashion.
Whether that’s bright red soldiers’ outfits or oversized shirts with ruffled collars and sleeves, we can expect to see some of the bolder and more experimental among us embracing these kinds of styles a little more as we race towards spring 2026.
Finding the right styles for you this coming spring will often mean ignoring the trends, and being a little personally creative. As you’ve hopefully noticed by now, there’s really never a right or wrong approach. You can, however, show that you’ve been inspired by recent trends, and use them as an opportunity to display a fashion literacy that your friends will be very jealous of.
