Mamaearth Baby Wipes Review – Bamboo Based & Biodegradable

November 15, 2017 by Lata 5 Comments

The one baby product that we probably use even more than diapers are Baby Wipes! What goes on around those fluffy baby bums is very, very important. It is such a lovely surprise to see no-polyester wipes in the Indian market. India’s beloved Mommy and Child skincare brand Mamaearth has recently debuted their organic baby wipes and I have been using them for a while now. Check out my Mamaearth baby wipes review to read more about the plethora of benefits these wipes carry.

Mamaearth Baby Wipes Review - Organic; Biodegradable; Bamboo Based

Bamboo Based Mamaearth Baby Wipes

I could sing praises of this feature. The most important feature of Mamaearth Baby Wipes remains the use of bamboo instead of the usual polyester wipes that we have all been using. We have all been there – diaper rashes and other skin irritations. The first thing the pediatrician asks you to do is stop using wipes. But wipes are supposed to be the better and cleaner alternative, right? Well, partly right. If wipes are filled with chemicals on a polyester base, they will be harmful to your baby in the longer run. And they are certainly not safe for newborns. Some of them could even lead to dermatitis. Read this post and you will start reading the labels next time you are buying wipes. If fact, you could right now read the label of your current baby wipes brand!

Mamaearth Baby Wipes Review

Mamaearth has done their research very well and avoided all the possible culprits (chemicals and polyester) from their baby wipes. The wipes are not only safe for your baby’s skin (right from newborn age) but also don’t contribute to the landfills! Wipes contain polyester and plastic elements that simply do not degrade. You might use them and throw them away but they continue to fill up landfills on our earth. Parents like me who are realizing this are forever looking for ways to more eco-friendly living. Biodegradable wipes could be your first step towards it!

Baby products are a huge market and there are some mainstream and big brands with their own baby wipes. Unfortunately, responsible business is not always followed which is surprising considering it is the baby products market we are talking about. A look at the labels of most products will tell you why.

It is almost always a better idea to shop from Eco brands. Now, eco brands in general are more expensive but a little bit of label comparison will convince you why you need to make that choice. Here are some of the major benefits associated with the use of Mamaearth Baby Wipes that I can put straight across:

  1. They are 100% free from polyester.
  2. They are made from 100% organic bamboo fiber which is one of the most sustainable fibers on earth. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant and regenerates quickly.
  3. Organic bamboo is grown without any use of pesticides and GMOs
  4. Being bamboo based, they are completely biodegradable. However, that does not mean they are flushable because it does not say that on the label. They will degenerate for sure but don’t flush them.
  5. Not containing any polyester, they are also suitable for newborns
  6. They are enriched with natural moisturizers like aloe vera, shea butter, almond oil and Vitamin E
  7. Hypoallergenic and Pediatrician Tested
  8. Doesn’t cause rashes
  9. Gentle and Safe for all body parts including face.
  10. Thicker and stronger
  11. The package design is very convenient. The wipes are easy to pull out, have a hard plastic cover to shut them perfectly when not in use. As a result, the wipes don’t dry up and are easy to pull out and use.
  12. Last but not the least, the package design is the CUTEST I have ever seen on any baby wipes package. My baby is in love with the cute owls 🙂

Cutest Baby Wipes Packaging Ever!

Mamaearth Baby Wipes Review

I usually begin my reviews by talking about the package design and that was the first thing I had noticed about Mamaearth Baby Wipes too. But having experiences my baby’s discomfort and pain through skin irritations, the prospect of having an organic and biodegradable alternative was so much more exciting and important for me that for the first time, I reserved my comments on the package for the end. But that in no way means I did not find it worth my notice. Let me tell you once again that the packaging is simply the cutest ever. The light blues and greens with a forest theme are very easy on the eyes.

Final Thoughts

Mamaearth Baby Wipes Review

The Mamaearth Baby Wipes are priced at INR 250 for a pack of 72 wipes. Yes, that is steep when compared to other brands. But I will repeat myself. Just take a look at the ingredients of the other major brands and you will agree with me that this extra bit spent was worth every single penny. I am really, really glad that parent-owned responsible brands like Mamaearth are coming up with healthier and smarter solutions like these wipes. You can trust this purchase with closed eyes!

I tried bamboo wipes bought from US for my baby once. But they were very dry. Are these a little on the dry side? Do they wipe off poo perfectly?

      Hi Sreemayee,
No, these wipes are very moist and can wipe poo easily. I use them to wipe my makeup too!

You are right! We use a lot of wipes too. More than diapers. For spills, after meals, vomits and even my makeup. And it is always a good feeling to use biodegradable ones. They re costlier and I understand your reasoning. I hope biodegradable baby products start being accepted by more parents and the price difference becomes less steep soon.
