15 Minutes A Day for Math Improvement! Smartick Review

September 19, 2017 by Lata 4 Comments

I will begin with sheer honesty – Math isn’t one of my strongest skills! Perhaps that is why I take extra efforts to instill math skills in my kids. While I am able to guide my 6 year old effectively, teaching my 12 year old is a whole different issue. No surprise then that I was super happy when I came to know about Smartick method! 15 minutes a day to better your math skills? I will go for it anytime! My Smartick review has been based on 2 weeks of daily math time on their web platform.

15 Minutes A Day for Math Improvement! Smartick Review

What is Smartick?

Before I jump to how the kids are faring, let me introduce you to Smartick. Smartick is an online math learning program available as an app or online for children of ages 4 to 14. What’s really amazing about it is that it uses artificial intelligence to adapt to your child’s learning style. A daily 15-minute session is what is needed to make your child progress at his or her own pace. This approach gives the kids a lot of practice in their weaker areas and help build confidence in math. Overall, within a few days, kids start developing a positive attitude towards math.

The program is supported by the European Union, and Smartick is now just going global! Indian parents, get ready to experience some cutting-edge math learning 🙂

How Does It Work?

Smartick is an app that you can download on your tablet or sign up on their website https://www.smartickmethod.com. It is a monthly subscription based practice tool. I use a lot of online learning systems for the kids’ Olympiads and everyday studies. So I chose the web platform because my kids are used to using my laptop for study practice. But the app is also super handy when you are traveling and don’t want the kids to miss their 15 minute session!

Once you sign up with them, you can add your kids names and their ages. The kids get to choose their username and even select their avatar! Every day they sign in and do their 15 minute session which is a mix of different types of problems such as addition, subtraction, sequences, logical reasoning, word problems, exponentiation, geometry etc. Once they complete the session, you are immediately emailed a report of their progress.

You also receive your own sign-in to evaluate their progress. There is also a provision to add a log-in for another person like a parent or a tutor or whoever else is in-charge of the kids’ studies. You can set up a separate log-in for them to assess the kids progress daily.

The Parents Dashboard lets me see the kids’ progress in a single glance!

Fun For Kids

The tool isn’t all studies and no fun! They have a variety of features to keep the kids engaged. The performance in every math session wins them ”ticks’. These star-shaped ticks can be collected and later used in the ‘virtual world’ to buy accessories and pets for their avatar. The virtual world also has many interesting education-based games for the kids to play. Kids enjoy playing them after their daily session. All games in Smartick are scientifically designed to reinforce cognitive skills like perception, attention, memory and logical reasoning.

Does it Work?

Smartick Review

The kids come back from school and ask me if the laptop is free for them to do their Smartick session!

Hell Yeah! I have seeing some great results. Both my children are improving in their math skills in very different ways and their journey is the base of my Smartick Review.

Problem Solving Skills in My 6 Year Old

My 6 year old son is the math aficionado of the family. Being a non-math person myself, my heart swells with pride and I try to encourage him further. But as efficient as he is with his arithmetic, he sometimes cannot grasp word problems. His language skills are lacking and he is at a loss at what the problem requires him to do.

Improvement Noted: With daily practice in every field of math, he is now grasping how questions are formed. His score gets better and better with every passing day. He is now able to understand what the different type of problems require him to do and he solves each one accordingly.

Dislike for Math VANISHED in My 12 Year Old

My eldest is my trophy child – the brilliant girl in the family. Sadly, her math skills made mine look better. It was all good until Grade 1 and 2. But as the math curriculum went on to become more complex, she ended up with a strong dislike for the subject.

Improvement Noted: I am waiting to see how she does in the forthcoming evaluations, but her Smartick score is improving with each passing day. She eagerly waits for her daily session and her speed in solving the problems has become very fast. She is also becoming increasingly good at solving problems mentally.

Final Thoughts

The only way to improve in maths is a lot of math practice. Smartick gives the kids plenty of practice in different types of problems and proceeds according to their learning levels. Their first sessions were only focused on assessing their learning styles. Once the program was able to make out what my kids are good at, and what they lack, their real daily test sessions began.

I am super impressed with Smartick. Both my kids are showing amazing improvement and a love for math. The ‘tick’ system and the virtual world is a great incentive! I hear them comparing their ‘ticks’ daily and telling each other about ‘buying a belt for their avatar’ or ‘saving to be able to buy a pet’. Smartick is an excellent way of combining studies with fun – and math study of all things! Who knew math could be fun! The kids come back from school and ask me if the laptop is free for them to do their Smartick session!

I also love that the program adapts itself to their abilities. It means the tool will progress according to my kids rhythm. It also means that if my kids are doing exceedingly well, the program will train them to do even more than their school curriculum!

I recommend that you sign up for their 15 day free trial and judge for yourself!

This is such an innovative and interesting way to improve kids mathematic skills, my elder one likes maths but just like sameer she is week in word problems, and can not interpret them properly so looses marks and interest there, reading your review I think this will be of great benefit to her in increasing her interest in maths

My son does not want to do maths at all. Smartick looks like an interesting method to make him do it. 15 minutes a day concept is very good.
