Eco-friendly Home Essentials: Healthy Products for Your Environment

October 15, 2021 by Lata 1 Comment

Every day, the average person uses products that are harsh to their environment. Eco-friendly products are a great way to lessen your impact on the planet while still living comfortably in your own home. There are many eco-friendly products for you and your family. Here are some favorite ideas to keep you and your family healthy and safe! Do you already use some of them in your home? If so, then you may be excited to learn about the others that made the list.

Eco-friendly Home Essentials: Healthy Products for Your Environment

Natural Detergent

When considering laundry detergent, you want one that is a safe and eco-friendly to clean your clothes. Ideally, you do not want your laundry detergent to contain dyes or perfumes. That makes it good for people with sensitive skin. You want a detergent that can clean stains and odors, while being gentle on fabrics. For extra measure, pick one that is made from biodegradable ingredients, so it is totally safe for the environment.

Water Filers

Many homes need water filtration systems because of issues with their city water. However, buying those pitcher filters and sink filters from the grocery store can get expensive. It is a much better, and more cost-effective, idea to have a home filtration system put into your home. That way, it cuts down on the costs, while still giving you and your family the safety you need. Companies like EcoPureHome can help cut the costs if you need to buy filtration cartridges as well, if you are not able to put a full home filtration system in.

Appliances Can Also Be Eco-Friendly

If you are in the market for a new appliance, you can also make that purchase eco-friendly. For example, say you are looking for a new washing machine. The best thing you can do with this part of your home if you want an eco-friendly option is get yourself a front load or high efficiency model that uses less water per load than older models used in years past (or even newer ones). This means saving money on electricity bills as well since these models run more efficiently.

The kitchen is another spot that homeowners should focus on when it comes to making changes for an eco-friendly home. A lot of people tend to think about appliances first, like dishwashers or refrigerators, but there are other items in this room that make a big difference too like disinfecting wipes (or even microfiber cloths) and sponges.

Reusable Cleaning Cloths

If you were to get reusable cloths instead of buying rolls of paper towels, how much would your amount of trash go down each week? Many people are not even aware that washable paper towels and rags are on the market. By not buying these products from the store, you save yourself those costs. Plus, you reduce your environmental footprint. You can buy a pack of a few of these washable cloths for the same price as a large pack of disposable paper towels, but you can reuse these as often as you wash them.

Plastic Bags and Bottles

Reusable grocery bags, not plastic ones are really important because they prevent the use of harmful plastics all over your house that can pollute waterways and oceans. Plus, many of them end up in landfills, where it’s dangerous for wildlife. They allow you to save money and they can be reused indefinitely. These can be purchased from local stores and used whenever you go shopping to prevent additional bags from filling up your pantry or cupboards. You and your family can keep filling plastic water bottles as long as you want, with a simple cleaning in the dishwasher after each use.

Dangers of Not Using Eco-Friendly Products

Products that are not made to be eco-friendly can lead to many different issues. There is the damage the products can do to the environment. Then, consider what they could do to you and your family. For example, most antibacterial soaps contain triclosan or chloroxylenol which can be absorbed through the skin into your bloodstream while you shower. Tricolsan has been linked with endocrine disruption, neurotoxicity, organ system toxicity, cancer in animals (though not humans yet). It’s also an ingredient found in Agent Orange! You and your family are exposed to those simply by trying to keep your hands clean. These are just some of the reasons why eco-friendly items are so important.

Making even one simple change can make a positive impact on your home. Take the time to make small adjustments a little at a time. Then, see how many eco-friendly ways you can adjust your home in the weeks and months to come.
