Planning Your Wedding In The UK? Here Are A Few Things You Should Know

May 28, 2025 by Lata Leave a Comment

When you’re planning a wedding abroad, one of the toughest decisions is where to go. There are so many wonderful countries out there, each with their own experiences to offer that are sure to make your time meaningful and memorable.

The UK, however, is always a surefire bet due to its unique charm and multitude of traditional venues. Though even if you’ve settled on having your wedding there, that’s still only half the battle. There are a number of different things you’ll need to plan for along the way, and it can be tricky to navigate them all.

This article is here to help: here are a few important things you should know for planning your wedding in the United Kingdom.

1. Choosing Your Ideal Venue

Most people automatically think of London, and while there are many great wedding venues in the capital, it’s definitely worth exploring beyond.

There are some fantastic wedding venues in Liverpool, for example – the city home to The Beatles. Then, you’ve got cities like Newcastle or York, which, while relatively small, have some beautiful architecture that would make for the perfect backdrop (and both places have a great nightlife). Or perhaps, you’d prefer something a little more secluded, in which case, there are some stunning woodland locations on the border of Scotland.

Think carefully about the sort of vibe you want, and go from there.

2. Plan for the Weather

Make no mistake about it, the UK can get very wet and windy, even in summer, so whenever you’re thinking of traveling, make sure you’re suitably prepared.

If possible, it’s best to avoid outdoor ceremonies or those where a significant portion is held outside. If you’re willing to brave it, though, an outdoor wedding doesn’t have to be doom and gloom – just make sure you have plenty of umbrellas for your guests and sturdy marquees that can handle the turbulent and unpredictable weather!

3. Don’t Forget About the Legal Side

Whenever you’re travelling abroad, particularly for a wedding, it’s essential to consider the legal elements.

You’ll need to prepare in good time. For example, it’s crucial to notify the local registry office within 29 days of the wedding, and you must make sure your visas are all sorted out and above board. Also, passports – make sure they’re up-to-date. It sounds obvious, but in the hype and excitement of it all, it’s easy to forget about these small details.

Plan things out as early as possible, and you’ll minimize the risk of any administrative hiccups derailing your plans.

Wrapping Up

Hopefully, you’re now a little clearer about what goes into planning a wedding in the UK. Of course, there’s a fair amount more to it, but the above pointers will offer you a good head start. The reality is that the logistics of having the wedding abroad are relatively straightforward: it’s the planning of the wedding itself that takes a considerable amount of time and effort, but it’s also an incredibly fun process. Good luck!
